4 Program Engagement
Each Center or Institute within the CCT provides a unique student experience. CCTs provide an array of enriching activities aligned with their mission statement. As described earlier, most CCTs focus on the objective of integrating faith and learning. From our in-depth examination of the five core centers and institutes that were involved in this project, we found that the number of programs offered to students varied greatly. One center offered 4 programs, and another offered 17 programs, with the average being about 11 or 12 programs. The impact of these programs also varied within each center or institute, as a whole, impact scores ranged from 2.2 to 4.6 out of 5 (5 = highly impactful).
Below, we provide a snapshot[1] of participants’ engagement in the “general” types of programs offered at CCTs and the impact of these activities.
General Programming
A general list of ten different types of programs was provided to participants (n = 235)[2]. We asked if participants had engaged in these programs (yes/no). If participants responded “yes” then we inquired about the impact of these activities (i.e., “please rate how impactful they have been for you”). Responses ranged from 1 (not important) to 5 (very important).
Impact
Of the 10 activities, participants rated Fellows programs, internship/leadership positions, and courses as the most impactful activities and publications/media, orientation programs, and lectures as the least impactful. The graph below illustrates the average impact score across the four waves for each activity[3].
Note. Scale from 1 (not important) to 5 (very important).
- Snapshots in this section were calculated as weighted means across the four timepoints. ↵
- The sample size is smaller than other measures in this study because only 7 of the 12 CCTs were provided the same questions about general programming. The 7 CCTs that were added to the study answered this question on general programming. The 5 core CCTs were asked about specific programs they provided; information about specific programming impact is not available in this report. ↵
- Participants who indicated that they did not participate in a given activity were not included in the calculations for average activity impact. ↵
