Unit 15: Trichord Identification

Learning Objectives

In this unit, we will focus on identifying trichords by their prime forms. Listening for the intervals that each trichord contains can help narrow down your answer.

Instructions

Write down the prime form of the trichords you hear. Remember that you could hear them “right-side-up” or “upside-down,” such as A C E or A C# E to represent (037). There are twelve trichordal set classes, with the following prime forms: (012), (013), (014), (015), (016), (024), (025), (026), (027), (036), (037), and (048).
