Unit 13: Mode Identification

Learning Objectives

In this unit, our mode identification work will focus on distinguishing between the seven diatonic modes:

  • Ionian
  • Dorian
  • Phrygian
  • Lydian
  • Mixolydian
  • Aeolian
  • Locrian

Instructions

Identify which mode(s) the example could be in. In some cases, if one or more scale degrees are not present in the melody, there may be multiple possible modes—make sure to indicate all possibilities.
