MAAMKIO YA HABARI
Habari is a widely used greeting in East Africa. While it translates to “news,” it is equivalent to “hello” or “how are you?” in English. The appropriate response and the specific form of the greeting can vary based on the time of day, the context of the conversation, and the relationship between the speakers. The most common response to any “habari” greeting is “nzuri,” which means “good” or “fine.” This simple reply is always a safe and polite option. Unless you are responding to someone you know and would like to engage further.
