Grammar: Future Tense and Its Negation
An affirmative future tense verb in Swahili is:
Subject Prefix + Tense Marker (-ta-) + Verb Stem + Final Vowel (-a)

Subject Prefix + Tense Marker + Verb Stem + Final Vowel (-a)
The tense marker for the future tense is -ta-. It indicates that the action will happen in the future. The verb stem is the root of the verb (e.g., from “kusoma” (to read), the stem is “-soma”). The final vowel for most Swahili verbs in the affirmative is -a.
Negation of Present Tense
Negating the future tense in Swahili involves a few changes. The affirmative subject prefixes are replaced by a negative subject prefix. The future tense marker -ta- does not change. The final vowel does not change either.
