12 Major Five-Finger Patterns

The major five-finger pattern (5FP) includes the first five notes of the major scale: do re mi fa sol. As you may guess from its name, the pattern is played by the five fingers in succession.

C Major Five-Finger Pattern

The major five-finger pattern contains both whole and half steps. Label the whole step(s) with a W and the half step(s) with an H in the blanks below the keyboard.

Memorize this pattern of whole and half steps. You will use it to build five-finger patterns for all twelve keys.
