78 Accompaniment Project
This capstone project synthesizes musical vocabulary concepts with harmonization and transposition skills developed in Class Piano I and II in a collaborative piano performance. Students will develop a two-hand accompaniment for a folk song using techniques explored in class.
Your accompaniment must be prepared in three keys of your choice and include the following:
- An introduction that incorporates part of the melody
- Two-hand harmonization with I, IV, and V7 chords
- 2-3 repetitions that use different two-hand accompaniment styles (number of repetitions depends on length of folk song)
You will perform your accompaniment in class with a partner singing or performing the melody on their major instrument. You and your partner should rehearse the three key options in advance. The instructor will choose the key to be performed in class.
Choose from one of these songs:
- Down By the Riverside (2x)
- Go Tell It On the Mountain (2x)
- Home on the Range (2x)
- My Country ‘Tis of Thee (3x)
- Peace Like a River (3x)
- Swing Low, Sweet Chariot (2x)
- Yankee Doodle (3x)
Or you may suggest a similar song for approval from the instructor.
