16 Work and Vocation

After we finish school, work frequently becomes where we spend the majority of our waking time. When we first introduce ourselves to someone, the first thing we usually tell them is what our job is. Work and vocation can play a large role in someone’s sense of self, but it is also influenced by many cultural and societal expectations. In this section we will examine vocational development in early adulthood as well as the role of work and careers in our lives during adulthood.
